Panasonic has introduced the Panasert MMC high-speed chip mounting machine. This modular, high-throughput “chip shooter” fits in front of the feeder carriage of most assembly machines, to increase line productivity without using any additional floor space. The compact MMC features a 10-nozzle, two-head pick-up system, which increases throughput by allowing simultaneous pick-up of 10 components. This enables the user to alternate pick-up and placement. A sophisticated nozzle design increases the available vacuum area so that chips in sizes ranging from 1005 through 3216 can be placed with the same nozzle. Placement time is only 0.2s/piece. With on-the-fly vision system, the MMC provides placement precision of ±0.1mm. Maximum throughput is 18,000 pieces/hour. This machine handles circuit boards ranging from 50mm x 50mm to 510mm x 460mm, with a transfer time of only 35. Component input can be via 8mm tape or EIAJ bulk cassettes. When equipped with double feeders, a maximum of 80 inputs can be accommodated.
