Juki introduced its intelligent feeder that reduces error in set-up by storing component and feeder data for use in identification. The feeder is designed to reduce set-up time, increase set-up accuracy, decrease defective boards and trace component lot numbers to specific boards, all resulting in superior capabilities. It has a built-in data storage device that communicates with the placement machine in real-time, resulting in constant checking of component presence and correctness. The system stores feeder ID, advance cycles (for maintenance), component name and remaining count and lot number. It also facilitates an automatic contact system that allows each feeder to connect with a board providing real-time communications with feeder and board. Specially designed software allows it to detect if the correct feeder has been placed in location, and can adjust for misplaced feeders. Equipped with a barcode reader for traceability, the feeder records the component lot number. The assembly machine can then read the number when the component runs out, notifying the operator who can then hand scan new reels to verify and reload components.
