Dage’s move into the X-ray inspection arena follows the company’s acquisition of German manufacturer of X-ray tubes, MediXtec, Merged under the name Dage MediXtec, the operation will, in addition to supplying the newly developed X-ray equipment, also continue to supply X-ray tubes to OEMs. Commenting on these developments, managing director Paul Walter said, „Complementing our involvement in bond testing, the move into X-ray inspection is a logical step, one that offers significant and very exciting business opportunities. The market for X-ray systems for electronics inspection applications currently stands at around $100 million a year and, fuelled by the increasing use of component packages such as BGAs and CSPs with their hidden solder joints, is set to grow to$450 million over the next five years.“
Dage MediXtec’s initial range of X-ray inspection systems comprises three models. Broadly similar, all employ open (demountable) microfocus tubes and provide a highly magnified all-round oblique-angle view of otherwise invisible interconnection bonds or other features of interest.
