Toneohm 970, from Polar Instruments, locates all types of short circuits on bare, multi-layer PCBs quickly and easily. Once identified, most of these faults can be economically repaired. The system offers a cost-effective solution for fine-line, high-value boards. Experience suggests that as much as 90% of short circuit faults found on PCB s occur in the outer layers. Difficult to locate using traditional AOI techniques, these faults are easily identified with Toneohm 970, and can nearly always be repaired. Toneohm 970 can be used on most PC13 designs including multi-layer, high density, surface mount and fine-Iine technologies, as well as those with maximum copper outers and/or power and earth planes. It will identify all track-to-track, plane-toplane and high-resistance shorts with enough precision to allow visual location and repair. The board is connected to the stimulus, and physically probed by the operator. The display navigation system and an audio signal guide the operator to the location of the short.
